ISLAMABAD:
The top political and military leadership were unanimous in expressing the need for elimination of terrorist elements challenging the writ of estate with an aim to ensure the integrity and security of the country at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani here on Friday.
A statement issued by the PM House after the meeting, said a consensus already exists in the country on rooting out terrorism and extremism from the country.
The political leadership has severely condemned the acts of terrorism in the country.
The official statement saw the current wave of terrorism as a threat to the country’s integrity and underlined the need for crushing the elements responsible for this. “The country will have to be purged of the terrorist elements for establishing writ of the government,” the statement stressed.
The political leadership lauded the efforts being made and sacrifices rendered by the Army with the aim to purge militancy and extremism from the country.
Besides PM and COAS, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, ISI Chief General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Ahmed Mukhtar, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Governor NWFP Awais Ahmed Ghani, chief ministers of the four provinces, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar, Deputy Convener of MQM’s Rabita Committee Dr. Farooq Sattar, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Senator Raza Rabbani, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin were present at the meeting.
